Question & Answer

Question

What is the z/OS UNIX dig command used for?

Answer

The z/OS UNIX dig command is used to query Domain Name Servers, which enables you to:

  • Exercise name servers

  • Gather large volumes of domain name information

  • Execute simple domain name queries

  • Execute multiple lookups from the command line

Unlike the TSO versions of both the NSLOOKUP command and the dig command, the z/OS UNIX dig command supports IPv6 queries.
