Question & Answer

Question

Is it possible for the FTP client to request a specific language for FTP server replies?

Answer

Yes, it is possible for the FTP client to request a specific language for FTP server replies.

Perform the following tasks:

  1. Verify that EXTENSIONS UTF8 is encoded in FTP.DATA.

  2. Issue the FEature subcommand to determine which languages the server offers.

  3. To set the language used for FTP replies from the server, issue the Language language command, where language is a 2-character code as specified by RFC 1766 identifying the language to be used for FTP replies.

LANGuage with no parameters sets the language for FTP replies to the server's default language. For most FTP servers, the default is US English encoded in 7-bit ASCII.

The LANGuage subcommand is not available unless EXTENSIONS UTF8 is encoded in FTP.DATA. It is also not available if you have disabled UTF-8 encoding with a LOCSIte command or FTP start option.
