Dataset SDFHMSRC is missing in CICS TS 5.3 upgrade

Question

I am in the planning stages for upgrading from CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V4.2 to CICS TS V5.3 and noticed there is no longer an SDFHMSRC data set.

  • Did I miss something in the install?

  • What is this data set used for?

  • Is the SDFHMSRC data set still required for CICS TS V5.3?

Answer

The SDFHMSRC dataset was last used in CICS TS V4.2 with the Message Editing Utility. See CICS TS V4.2 documentation topic Utility data sets for a description of the "Message source data set".

The CICS TS V5.3 documentation topic Changes between releases under Upgrading says Message edit utility, DFHMEU is discontinued in CICS TS V5.1. The SDFHMSRC message source data set is no longer distributed since the Message Editing Utility (DFHMEU) no longer exists in CICS TS V5.x.
