Question & Answer
Question
When I bring up a Data Set List, there is a duplicate entry for one of the data sets.
Answer
Often this occurs as a result of the normal functions of the Multilevel Alias Facility. ISPF Data Set List Utility uses the GFL (Generic Filter Locate) to do the search through the catalogs. If the Multilevel Alias (MLA) is greater than 1, DFSMS processes the Generic Filter Locate slightly differently than if it is set to 1.
With MLA=2, using generic filter locate, DFSMS searches all user catalogs looking for matches to the Dsname Level. DFSMS adds the catalog cluster name to the list, then searches the catalog. The first entry in the catalog is always the self-describing record which contains the data and index component names which should now be added to your list as long as they meet the criteria.
With MLA=1, this processing is not done.
