Question & Answer
Question
Why do I get message "DFHDH0002 A severe error (code X'020C') has occurred in module DFHDHSL." in my CICS Transaction Sever for z/OS (CICS TS) region?
The CICS trace entry shows:
DH 020C DHSL EXC INTERNAL_ERROR FUNCTION(EXTRACT_ADS) RESPONSE(EXCEPTION) REASON(CONVERSION_NOT_SUPP)
The region seems to continue to run normally, but we are wondering what is causing this message.
Answer
The DFHDH0002 message with error code X'020C' in DFHDHSL occurs because the DFHCNV table does not contain an entry for DFHWBUD. The severe error is triggered by task which issues a DOCUMENT SET SYMBOLLIST command. DFHCCNV fails to locate the DFHWBUD entry so ends up addressing low core. The client and server ccsid indexes are then obtained from location x'12' and x'16' resulting in the reported CONVERSION_NOT_SUPP exception.
DFHDHSL requires DFHWBUD to be available so that it can correctly perform unescaping of symbol values. DFHWBUD gets used because DFHDHSL has no other place to obtain the ccsid details.
Adding DFHWBUD to the DFHCNV table (using the sample provided in DFHCNVW$) will get this to work. Regenerating the DFHCNV table will also get the entries required for CICSPlex SM (CPSM) and the CICS Explorer added automatically.
