How do I FTP PDS members with their directory entries (ISPF statistics)?

Question & Answer

Question

I am transferring members of a PDS across systems using FTP. The problem is that the ISPF statistics are not transferred with them, either they are empty or reset.

Answer

First, the transfer needs to be done with the current directory on both sides (via the CD and LCD commands) set to the source and target PDSes. Then specify the transfer mode as either BLOCK or COMPRESS. Both the client and server will then recognize that this is a PDS transfer and send the extra commands needed to include the member's directory information.
