Question & Answer
Question
Why are my CICS Performance Analyzer for z/OS (CICS PA) batch jobs failing with S106-0C abends after upgrading from CICS PA V5.3 to V5.4? The jobs create 27 reports. If I move some of the reports to a separate CICS PA step (passing the SMF files a second time), the job completes without the abend.
Answer
The system completion code 106 with 0C is described in the z/OS V2.2 documentation as follows:
Not enough storage was available for FETCH to get storage for the module or control blocks.
If the jobs aren't using CICS PA external sort workfiles, you might want to refer to topic on External sorting in the CICS Performance Analyzer for z/OS V5.4 documentation. You might find that this results in less storage usage and avoids the S106-0C abends.
You might also want to run the CICS PA jobs with REGION=0M to see if they still abend S106-0C and ensure any IEFUSI exit will allow you to run with REGION=0M.
The following SLIP trap can also be set to capture a SVCDUMP on the S106-0C along with the CICS PA joblog if the S106-0C continues to occur and pursued by opening an IBM service request.
SLIP SET,COMP=106,A=SVCD,ID=S106,JOBNAME=xxxxxxxx,
SDATA=CSA,ALLNUC,PSA,SQA,LSQA,TRT,SUM,SWA,RGN,GRSQ,LPA),END
where xxxxxxxx is the CICS PA jobname.
