EYUNX0013E transaction COLM has invalid value after upgrading CPSM to 5.4

Question & Answer

Question

Why do I get message EYUNX0013E for transaction COLM when I start my CICS MAS regions after upgrading to CICSPlex SM (CPSM) V5.4? I get this message:

EYUNX0013E applid TRANSACTION COLM has invalid value: CJH9NXLM for option: PROGRAM

I do not have any COLM transactions defined in the CICS System Definition (CSD) file.

Answer

This EYUNX0013E message is indicating that the MAS initialization program has detected an invalid definition option for the CPSM COLM transaction. COLM is the transaction that is used to start the CPSM MAS Agent code within a MAS region.

There are two ways to install MAS resource definitions in a CICS region:

  • Using the default definitions installed by CPSM at region start up when you specify CPSMCONN in the SIT to indicate the region is a LMAS or WUI.

  • Using EYU$MDEF to override the default definitions. If the CICS version is lower than CPSM, you should use EYU$Mxxx where xxx is the CICS version. For example, if CICS TS version is 5.3 the xxx should be 700.

CICS will dynamically define the CICS resource definitions required to allow the CMAS, MAS agent, or WUI server to be started. This includes the COLM and COVC transactions. If these transactions are invoked, or the equivalent CPSMCONN system initialization parameter is set, CPSM will dynamically create any further definitions as required.

In this case, EYU9NXLM had been included in the PLTPI which led to the problem. But after adding CPSMCONN=LMAS to the SYSIN and bouncing the region, CPSM was able to start up successfully.

If you choose to use the PLTPI approach or need to override a default definition, you should be aware that the PLTPI program name changes with each release. Therefore when you upgrade to a new release, you must update the PLTPI program name based on the target release.

For example,

  • If you were upgrading to Version 5.4, the program name should be CJH9NXLM.

  • If you are upgrading to Version 5.3, the program name should be CJG9NXLM.

  • If you are upgrading to Version 5.2, the program name should be CJF9NXLM.
