Question
When I leave ISPF, I almost always see a panel called Specify Disposition of Log and List Data Sets which asks me what to do with my log and list data sets. I always want to do the same thing. Is there any way I can avoid seeing this panel?
Answer
The first thing to do is make sure that your log and list defaults are set up the way you want them. Use the Settings primary command to get to the ISPF Settings panel. Select the Log/List action bar choice. You will need to make sure that you select Log Data set defaults and List Data set defaults so that both defaults are set.
Whether you see the Specify Disposition of Log and List Data Sets panel or whether the defaults are used depends on how you got into ISPF. If you enter ISPF via a panel, then if you use the X selection or the RETURN primary command, the defaults are used. If you use the END command, you will see the Specify Disposition panel. By default, the ISPF command resolves to ISPSTART PANEL(ISR@PRIM) NEWAPPL(ISR), so if your defaults are set and you select X to exit, you should go straight to TSO READY when exiting ISPF.
