TASKDATALOC and DATALOCATION are changed from BELOW to ANY after upgrading to CICS TS 5.4

Question

Why are TASKDATALOC and DATALOCATION for some of my old transaction and program definitions changed from BELOW to ANY after upgrading CICS Transaction Sever for z/OS (CICS TS) to 5.4?

Answer

Please first verify if CICS TS V5.4 PTF UI53029 (APAR PI90920) has been applied in your system.

If the PTF has been applied but the problem still exists, use CEDA or DFHCSDUP ALTER for the questionable transaction and program to specify TASKDATALOC(BELOW) and DATALOCATION(BELOW) before upgrading to CICS TS 5.4.

The reason for this problem occurs is because several default values have been changed in CICS TS 5.4 and because of some CSD records that were written many years ago when the default value was not saved to the CSD, these records now pick up the new default value. This results in the program DATALOCATION being changed from BELOW to ANY and the transaction TASKDATALOC being changed from BELOW to ANY.

Please be aware that for these old transactions, SPURGE and TPURGE values might also need to be specified before upgrading to CICS TS 5.4 as these parameters also had their defaults changed in CICS TS V5.4.
