DFHIS1033 error 0535 for release of RECEIVE IPIC session in IPCONN

I am trying to use an IPIC connection between z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition 03.00.07 and CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V5.3.

I am able to acquire the IPCONN connection. But when I try to use the connection, I get message:

DFHIS1033 BIS processing error (code X'0535') occurred during release of RECEIVE IPIC session in IPCONN.

In a trace of the problem we see this exception entry:

IS 0535 ISCO EXC - INVALID_BIS_REQ - FUNCTION(PROCESS_BIS) IPCONN(xxxxxxxx) ... TRANID(CISS)

Why do I get message DFHIS1033 processing error code X'0535'?

Answer

The data received from z/OS Connect included a request to start transaction CISS. You can see it in this trace entry earlier in the trace:

   SO 0202 SOCK  EXIT  RECEIVE/OK

Field 2 has the POST data that is being received. You would see the CISS tranid in the eyecatcher, perhaps mixed in with other data.

Transaction CISS and program DFHISCOP are CICS system resources to acquire or release an IPCONN connection. CISS should not be driven as a transaction ID by any IPCONN partner.

In this case, the customer removed "CISS" from the service definition and removed the API and service from the ZCEE server. They rebuilt them and deployed again without the CISS and the request was able to be processed.
