DFHSR0606 80A AKEX SP229 K8 when using CA Top Secret

Question & Answer

Question

Why did my CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) region terminate end of memory? I see the following message on the console:

DFHSR0606 Abend (code 80A/AKEX) has been detected.

I am using CA Top Secret from CA Technologies.

Answer

Using IPCS command VERBX VSMDATA 'NOG SUMM' to review the CICS SR0606 dump with a focus on the MVS storage allocation below the line, I noticed a pattern of storage in Subpool 229 Key 8 that totaled close to 1M in size.

The pattern was a DQE size of x'1000' with a free area of x'7C8'. The size of the getmain was x'838' bytes.

Entering option 1 from the IPCS primary option menu to browse these areas, they all looked the same, like boot strap code and a register save area. The boot strap code takes you to a routine that has the following eye-catcher:

x4.......#MID......y....TSSJJINT
CAKOG00 ~RMID(SO00816)~ 201803
05 12.08 .......CA TOP SECRET

CA Technologies was contacted. They said below two fixes will take care of this abend80A abendAKEX.

 • OA53955 - IBM z/OS R230 APAR

 • SO04024 - CA fix
