Provisioning with zospt returns IYURP0018E: The system null is not defined in rdp-system-pool

Question

When provisioning a CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS) region using the zospt command line tool, I received the following error information:

Error response from z/OSMF.  Http response code:   400.
2018-07-30 09:56:51  IYUCM0016E: The request to perform the action create for the component registry instance failed.
2018-07-30 09:56:51  Additional z/OSMF error info: IYURP0018E: The system null is not defined in rdp-system-pool.
2018-07-30 09:56:51  Failed to run image cics_54.

Why does this happen?

Answer

When you associate a template with a tenant, one of the options presented to you is to choose:

System selection for provisioning:
Use a specific system
Assign system automatically
Prompt user for system


If you wish to run the template from the zospt command line tool, you must not choose the option Prompt user for system as zospt does not allow a system to be specified on a zospt run command.

I recommend that you choose the option Use a specific system and pick the system that you wish to provision onto, as a good way to get started.
