Question by AD Senjaliya  (1) | May 11 at 02:03 AM ibmscannerbarcodeltotapets3100

Hi, We are using TS3100 tape library ,With LTO5 tape Drive and LTO7 tape drive.

Left bay contain all tapes of LTO5 and Right bay contain LTO7 tapes.

Till now we are using same bar code for Both Tapes (LTO5 and LTO7).Bar code label ended with L5.

As we are not aware that LTO7 bar code should ended with L7.

Till yesterday morning everything working fine.
But at afternoon we introduce new LTO7 tape.

Issue and Observation:

1)Inventory failed in Veritas backup utility and error given of Compatibility issue of Cartridge.

2)So we check webconsol of TS3100 ,Status of new tape showing FULL,Gen,5.Which mean tape present in 18 number slot is LTO5.

3)Physically check inserted new LTO7 tape and compare with old LTO7 cartridge ,Model and Make is same.

4)Bar code Label of Old LTO7 ended with L5 ,and in webconsol, it is showing FULL,Gen,7.

5)As per ibm recommendation we change label of new LTO7 tape,Now bar code label ended with L7 .

6)after replacing bar code, inventory success in Veritas backup and also showing FULL,Gen,7 under web consol of TS3100.

7)one more issue occurred, while we are trying solve new LTO7 tape issue

i) my one old LTO7 tape in 22 number slot out of 5 tapes also showing Full,Gen,5.Which was previously showing Full,Gen,7.

Query:

1)If it is bar code issue than why my old tape of LTO7 with bar code of LTO5 working well.

2)Still all old tape which are having LTO5 bar code label on LTO7 tapes showing Full GEN 7.

3)Can i change bar code label of all old LTO7 tapes ?,Is my backup taken in old tapes remain untouched after change physical label?

Kindly help me to find solution.
