Open, scalable, flexible runtime management of APIs through API Connect enabled containers

API Connect is excited to announce enabling its customers to manage their runtimes using containers. Starting from APIC v5.0.7, APIC customers can run their APIs using the open industry standard Docker containers, design their runtime management fabric with the ever growing pool of container management tools, and independently move their deployment across servers and locations. Happy API Year!

It’s that time of year when we look back at the year that has passed and ahead to what will come. As I think back over 2016 it was one of my most exciting years in my 35 year career at IBM. The interest around the world in all continents (okay, I did not go to Antarctica) and in all industries was incredible. I met hundreds of people in roles from C-level executives to developers who all wanted to discuss what is going on in the API Economy. What were the most common questions I was asked? …  Continue reading Happy API Year!

Internet of Things APIs – Focus on Security

A man walks up to a car, but doesn’t have the keys to the car. Not a problem. He takes out his mobile phone and clicks on an App that he wrote which invokes device APIs to unlock the car. Then he clicks on another function in the App to start the car and drives away. Does this sound like a convenience you would like? Well, I forgot to mention one important thing – the man does not own the car.  Continue reading Internet of Things APIs – Focus on Security

Disrupting the API Economy at Interconnect 2016

A recent IDC FutureScape report with predictions for the Telecommunication Industry for 2016 that I read had all 10 predictions related to the as-a-service economy. It addressed the continuous effect of mobile, challenges for Cloud Service Providers with regard to regulations, security, and competition; consumption of services to accelerate the Digital Transformation of the enterprise, and the challenges to procure such services from a self-serve to a managed model. Many of these predictions are not new, or at least should not catch anyone by surprise; however, the observation that called my attention the most was that each one of the 10 predictions relies on a programmability aspect to realize itself, with web APIs as the underlying mechanism to make it happen.  Continue reading Disrupting the API Economy at Interconnect 2016

The Next Step – Connecting in the API economy

When most organizations talk about the API economy, they start with the API itself. They ask the question, “How do I find APIs?” or “How do I manage, publish, and deploy them?” These are all great questions, of course, but it isn’t where one should start. The key to a successful API economy strategy begins with identifying the differentiating functions within your organization that you can take to market. It’s that simple.  Continue reading The Next Step – Connecting in the API economy

Story of the Orange Shoe Lace & API

My recent conversation with Aarti Borkar, director for hybrid cloud and integration teams with IBM Cloud, on various API Economy concepts. We discussed various topics including “How can an organization cope with the Younger, digital developers that are data needy”, “APIs & Enterprise data quality”. Also find API Economy assessment link, a self-service IBM tool which allows you to compare your enterprise API initiative against your peers using the IBM API maturity model assessment service.  Continue reading Story of the Orange Shoe Lace & API
