A solution from China to keep markets open after a disaster
Physical infrastructure isn’t the only thing to go down during a natural disaster. All of the invisible infrastructure — such as telecom and banking networks — is disrupted too. Yet people still have pressing needs for goods and services when their homes and communities are in disrepair and undergoing reconstruction. As Persistent employees recently participated in the 2020 Call for Code Global Challenge. They started off by explored problems being experienced by the healthcare and pharmaceutical workforce beleaguered by urgency of the situation, they stumbled across some clever solutions leveraging AI systems to address various challenges. Kode with Klossy Scholars use tech for good
Kode With Klossy is an inspiring organization for girls aged 13–18, and an active supporter of Call for Code that affords scholars the opportunity to attend free, 2-week code camps where they learn about the fundamentals of either Web or Mobile App Development. One incredible project from the camp came from a Florida team, where team members Ellie and Suria aimed to tap into the minds of the young generation and empower this cohort to take action in politics for a better future. Disaster plans coded to keep up in crisis
Natural disasters are difficult to navigate. A complete break from normal life, people are thrust into critical situations, and they often don’t know how to protect themselves or seek safety. Community outreach for emergency preparedness helps, but in the midst of crisis, it’s hard to know what to do, what not to do, or even, how to take action to save yourself and others nearby.
