Companies across multiple industries are exploring edge computing to better understand how they might benefit from this emerging technology. With the emergence of 5G as a technology transformation catalyst, companies are considering edge computing as part of their overall strategy. Because 5G is core to the businesses of connectivity, telecommunications companies are investing heavily in edge computing as a key pillar for their overall 5G rollout.
In this series, we examine what edge computing is, explore how edge computing can be used to create new opportunities, and discuss how edge computing can be implemented. In part 1, we look at relevant use cases that affect multiple industries and provide an overview of how some of them can be implemented. In parts 2 and 3, we examine the underlying tools and implementation details to successfully deploy an edge solution. The focus of this series will be on the telecommunications industry, but edge computing is relevant for many other industries.
