KEYNOTE: Performance Engineering: The IBM Garage Perspective

Abstract

Hybrid Cloud brings not only new technology, but also a new culture to traditional IT. This culture change is most famous for its embrace of techniques like Design Thinking, Agile development, and pair programming. This presentation discusses how Hybrid Cloud technology and culture reaches into the space of performance and scalability. We’ll discuss considerations and lessons from real-world experiences to engage the scalability and power of the Hybrid Cloud. The presentation will also cover how one team, the IBM Garage, is working to incorporate operational success factors like Scalability and Security into the very fabric of the new development culture.

Speaker Bio

BIO – Stacy Joines is an IBM Fellow with the IBM Garage organization across the IBM WebSphere portfolio. Her career started as developer of software development tools and architectures. She is a graduate of NCSU in Computer Science, and is located in the IBM Research Triangle Park lab. She works with clients on AI projects as well as those clients requiring highly scalable or highly secure implementations. Prior to joining the Garage team, she led the Watson consulting practice, successfully establishing the first commercial AI offering, Watson, with her clients. Earlier, she led a consulting team in IBM Industry Solutions for Retail, and assisted her clients in making their web sites constantly ready for major events, such as Black Friday. She has also led performance consulting teamsin North Carolina.
