The wait is over!
Our Clients asked for it and we listened. We have expanded the platform support available for Db2 Warehouse beginning of November 2017, bringing in the ability to run Db2 Warehouse container on the z platform.
The Db2 Warehouse on System z offers the safest way to run local data warehouse with the most secured and reliable System. One can now run Docker containerized Db2 Warehouse software abstracting away host Linux requirements. This provides the flexibility to deploy arbitrary warehouse workloads in a standard and repeatable fashion.
Co-location on Linux next to z/OS enables secure and compliant data to reside in the Data Warehouse securely and also gives access to significant CPU, I/O & memory footprint for faster query times. It opens up the broadest set of offerings for hybrid cloud deployments, with built-in Fluid Query for seamless integration across DRDA data sources and others coming along soon.
The benefit of the Common SQL Engine, supporting a write-once, run anywhere paradigm, makes this possible. There is no other solution of such kind on the Linux on z systems, enabling Hybrid Cloud use cases for critical z/OS data.
Some of the key use cases helping Clients who want to move their data out of Db2 on Z to have warehouse platform now have option to move to Linux on Z, thus leveraging Db2 Warehouse solution.
The simplified deployment model along with key support to explore Data Science capabilities leveraging in-built spark engine and related tools, opens up a huge potential for our Clients.
