June 24, 2020 10:00 am EET

During this time of significant change, developers are key to accelerating essential recovery and transformation. Join us at Think Digital Summit Africa for our developer focused sessions and master the technical skills to help your organisation recover, transform and stay resilient.

⚆ Put smart to work
As the world’s businesses begin to reopen, its time to rethink how we move forward to keep business running – designing and building for tomorrow.
⚇ Demystifying Cloud Native for Enterprise Developers – In this session we revisit the motivations behind cloud native technologies. We explore the drivers and relationships behind DevOps, agile, containers, container orchestration, and microservices. We dive into the 12-Factor methodology as the industry standard set of best practices to follow.
Speakers:
Kaushik Lala – IT Specialist, IBM South Africa Cloud & Cognitive Expert Labs
Indran Naick – CTO of IBM Integrated Account General Motors, IBM Academy of Technology member, IBM Master Inventor

⚈ Experience – Code
⚉ Deploying Deep Learning Microservices with the IBM Model Asset eXchange
The popular conception of applying Deep Learning is that you take an Open Source or research model and simply deploy it. In reality developers face many challenges ranging from custom requirements for data pre- and post-processing, to inconsistencies across frameworks, to lack of standardization in serving APIs. The goal of the IBM Model Asset eXchange (MAX) is to remove these barriers to entry for developers to integrate Open Source deep learning models into their enterprise applications.
Speakers:
– Lungelo Sikobi – IBM Developer Advocate, Cloud Native & AI
– Nick Pentreath – Principal Engineer, ML at IBM Center for Open-source Data & AI Technology (CODAIT)

⚉ Cloud Native Java Microservice Applications on OpenShift
Will Java die out? Is it good for microservices? Java is not about to die out anytime soon and it is great for microservices. In this session we will work with Java microservices, Open Liberty and Quarkus. Learn how to build a Java API for RESTful Web Services and deploy it to Red Hat OpenShift.
Speakers:
Sbusiso Mkhombe – IBM Developer Advocate, Data Science, Container Development & Blockchain
Lungelo Sikobi – IBM Developer Advocate

⚉ Building Serverless Web Applications on IBM Cloud
Serverless computing allows application resources to be dynamically provisioned, which abstracts the underlying infrastructure, allowing developers to focus more on development. Learn how to create a Serverless web application on IBM Cloud in 20 minutes.
Speakers:
Sbusiso Mkhombe – IBM Developer Advocate, Data Science, Container Development & Blockchain
Tosin Amuda – IBM Developer & Advocacy Leader at IBM Global Industry Solution Center in Lagos, Nigeria

⚉ Modernizing your Infrastructure with Kubernetes on IBM Z
In this session, we explore the Kubernetes ecosystem as a whole, and why Kubernetes is a compelling mechanism for modernizing your platform. We deep-dive into Z details with demos and technical product overviews and why Z is a compelling option for developers looking to modernize their services and integrate their hybrid and multicloud solutions.
Speaker: Phila Dlamini – IBM Developer Advocate & Programme Manager for LinuxONE Africa

⚈ Experience – Data & AI
⚉ Explore Open Datasets using IBM Watson Studio and the IBM Data Asset Exchange
The IBM Data Asset eXchange (DAX) offers a trusted source for open datasets for Artificial Intelligence (AI) as well as unique access to various IBM Research datasets. We will demo DAX and walk through how to use IBM Watson Studio projects and notebooks to explore, analyze, visualize and train machine learning models on datasets from DAX.
Speakers:
Lungelo Sikobi – IBM Developer Advocate, Cloud Native & AI
Nick Pentreath – Principal Engineer, ML at IBM Center for Open-source Data & AI Technology (CODAIT)
