Towards the end of Q1 2016, we decommissioned the Analytics for Apache Hadoop service from the Bluemix catalog. I wanted to offer an update on what we have been working on since then.

Our aim in Analytics Platform at IBM is to provide the best experience for users building and deploying analytics applications. Throughout this year, users can expect to see enhancements, features and new consumption models being rolled out. We intend to achieve these goals by focusing on service quality and user experience while moving at the pace of the market. Hence, we decided to pull out the Analytics for Apache Hadoop offering earlier in Q1 2016 to focus on building a better architecture and consumption model, while BigInsights for Apache Hadoop, our enterprise Hadoop cloud offering is still available on Bluemix.

Since then we have made progress on enabling the new model. We have now introduced a beta of the Basic plan under BigInsights for Apache Hadoop in Bluemix. This option provides the ability for users to spin up Apache Hadoop clusters on demand, within a few minutes. It also allows users to scale the cluster up or down, within minutes, without having to shut down the cluster. We have enabled integration with the Bluemix Object Storage service for persistent storage and will continue to enhance the same. This option is currently in a private beta with users being selectively onboarded as we build capacity. You can pre-register for the beta here. We intend to open it up to a public beta on Bluemix and a subsequent GA soon thereafter.

If you are looking to trial or do a proof of concept (POC) on IBM BigInsights or IBM Open Platform, please try options available here. If these option do not suit your requirement, please reach out to your sales representatives or drop us a line here on dW. We have other options which could be made available based on the scope of the trial or POC.
