BigSQL in BigInsights on Cloud is SSL-enabled by default. The default port to connect is different than the BigSQL in BigInsights on-prem. You can set up an SSL connection to the BigSQL in Data Server Manager (DSM), which is available when you sign into the BigInsightsWeb home page. I’ve described in this blog how to set up an SSL connection to use the Data Server Manager for your BigInsights on-cloud cluster.
1. Open the BI Home webpage and click LAUNCH for Data Server Manager(DSM) for bigsql.

2. To add a database connection, choose SetUp -> Database Connections
3. In the Database connection panel, Click the + sign to add the database connection.
4. In the pop-up window, fillup the following fields
a. Connection name: Name of your choice
b. Data Server Type: BigSQl for BigInsights and IBM Open Platform
c. Host Name: your bigsql head-node hostname.
d. Port Number: 51000 (default for BI on Cloud)
e. JDBC security Clear text password.
f. UserID/ Password: Your Biadmin userId and Password.
5. In the same Window, there is another tab called Advanced JDBC Properties.
6. In that tab, add following property as bigsql connection in BI On Cloud is SSL enabled.
a. sslConnection=true
7. Now you should be able to test the connection. When you click OK, the new database connection gets added the connections panel.
Once added, you can use this database connection for other operations in DSM.
