About MailChimp

MailChimp is an email marketing service that helps you to design and send email newsletters, invitations, reminders and more, to contacts in your lists. (In the Mailchimp UI, lists are referred to as audiences. A Mailchimp audience is used to collect and manage your subscribed, non-subscribed, and unsubscribed contacts.)

Potential customers can be found in many places, from contacts that are entered by your sales team in your CRM system, to people who submit on-line forms. App Connect ensures that you capture all those potential customers; for example, by adding them automatically as members to your MailChimp lists. You can also use App Connect to ensure that your other apps are updated when something happens in MailChimp; for example, every time a new MailChimp list member is added, App Connect can automatically add their details to another system, or notify someone by email or instant message.

A typical business scenario

Say you’re in charge of marketing for a new online clothing store. Business is booming and more customers are finding your site every day. You want your business to have that personal touch, so you want to keep in contact with your customers. So you’re using MailChimp to create mailing lists, design your emails, and target your messages to specific customers. MailChimp’s powerful features mean that you can make sure that your customers are happy with their purchases, offer help, and tempt them with enticing offers.

You also have some initiatives to drum up more custom. You’ve organized some fashion shows through a ticketing app, and you’ve created an online questionnaire in a form-building app to find out what prospective customers want. Happily, lots of people are signing up for the fashion shows, and completing your questionnaire. You really need to add these people to your mailing lists to that you can keep in touch with them. But it’s taking so much time to add them to your MailChimp mailing lists.

How App Connect can help

Connect App Connect to your apps, then let it pass the key information to MailChimp; creating campaigns or mailing lists, or adding contacts to lists automatically. So whenever someone signs up to your events, they’re automatically added to your mailing list. And everyone who completes your questionnaire is added automatically to your mailing list. So no more time wasted manually transferring your contacts.

Similarly, you might want to use information from MailChimp to update other apps. When you get a new MailChimp list member, you might want to send a message, add them to another mailing list or create a new lead in a different app. Instead of spending time adding this information by hand, let App Connect update your apps automatically – in real time. App Connect automates the sharing of this valuable data across these different apps.

What should I consider first?

You can see a full list of the trigger events and the actions that are available with MailChimp on the Applications tab on the App Connect Catalog page. Before you add some of the MailChimp events or actions to your flow, make sure you have the following resources:

  • You’ll need the user name and password of your MailChimp account so that you can connect App Connect to it.
  • If you choose the “New Member” event to trigger your flow, you must specify the name of an existing MailChimp list; that’s the list that App Connect will monitor for new members.
  • If you add the “Add member to list” action to your flow, you must have set up already a list in MailChimp so that App Connect can add a member to that list.
  • If you add the “Create campaign” action to your flow, you must have an existing list of members for App Connect to send your campaign to.
