We are excited to introduce the Getting Started guides for Watson IoT Platform. These guides demonstrate Watson IoT Platform best practices and help you develop a ready-for-production end-to-end IoT prototype system. The sample code in the guides can be scaled, secured, integrated with systems, fitting right into developers’ devOps development and build processes. Within the guides, there are additional links to task-specific documentations, API docs, client libraries (SDKs), and additional training materials.

There are four Getting Started guides:

Guide 1: Connecting a Conveyor Belt Device
Developers will learn to:
• Create and deploy a Watson IoT Platform organization by using Cloud Foundry CLI
• Build and deploy a sample conveyor belt device
• Connect the simulated conveyor belt device to Watson IoT Platform
• Monitor and visualize device data by using the Watson IoT Platform dashboards

Guide 2: Using Basic Real-Time Rules and Actions
Developers will learn to:
• Create a message schema for your conveyor belt device event data
• Create and trigger a rule
• Create an email action

Guide 3: Monitoring the Device Data
Developers will learn to:
• Deploy a GitHub-sourced sample web application by using Cloud Foundry
• Configure the sample app to connect to Watson IoT Platform by using an API key and authentication token
• Configure three user interface widgets to display device data as gauges and graphs
• Use the web application to monitor your connected conveyor belt device

Guide 4: Simulating a Large Number of Devices
Developers will learn to:
• Use Cloud Foundry to deploy a Node-RED based and webhook enabled device simulator application
• Use API calls to create and register devices, publish device events, and delete devices
