OpenLDAP Insight Pack

Overview

The OpenLDAP Insight Pack gives customers support to ingest data from OpenLDAP logs into IBM Operations Analytics – Log Analysis. They can then use a rich set of analytical dashboards to visualize metadata and derived metrics from log content, along with performing additional queries on the content.

The dynamic dashboards provided with the OpenLDAP Insight Pack help in visualizing the data which is available through OpenLDAP system logs. You can view the dashboards at a later time from the Search Dashboards pane.

System Log Health Dashboard

This dashboard displays charts for the OpenLDAP Server based on the various errors and failures in the Syslogs. The charts display the top 5 hosts with maximum errors, daemon failures, authentication failures, and maximum target object not found errors.

System Log Dashboard

This dashboard displays charts for the OpenLDAP Server on a particular host based on the various errors and failures in the Syslogs. The charts display all errors, daemon failures, authentication failures, and target object not found errors that are distributed over a specified time period.

Additional information

With the Quick Searches feature for OpenLDAP Insight Pack, users can create saved searches for a keyword or a series of keywords. You can run the searches at a later time from the Saved Searches pane.

The installer provides the following quick searches:

  • Common Patterns: These searches are simple or common strings used while looking for different problems such as error, fatal, critical, failure, warning, and so on in the logs.
    • OpenLDAP Syslogs: This search query, when applied to the system logs collected from the OpenLDAP Server, displays all OpenLDAP specific system logs.
  • Functional Searches: These searches are specific searches used while looking for specific and detailed data known to impact the functional areas. You can also use these searches to look for specific patterns known to indicate performance or availability issues.
    • OpenLDAP Errors: This search query, when applied to the system logs collected from the OpenLDAP Sever, displays all OpenLDAP specific error logs.
    • OpenLDAP Daemon Failures: This search query, when applied to the system logs collected from the OpenLDAP Server, displays log messages related to OpenLDAP daemon failures.
    • OpenLDAP Authentication Failures: This search query, when applied to the system logs collected from the OpenLDAP Server, displays OpenLDAP system log messages when user enters invalid credentials.
    • OpenLDAP Target Object Not Found Error: This search query, when applied to the system logs collected from the OpenLDAP Server, displays OpenLDAP log messages when the LDAP search operations cannot find any entries that match the search filter.
    • OpenLDAP Server Unavailable Error: This search query, when applied to the system logs collected from the OpenLDAP Server, displays OpenLDAP log messages when the LDAP Server cannot process the client’s bind request. The client’s bind request cannot be processed because the LDAP Server has shut down or a subsystem necessary to complete the operation is offline.
    • OpenLDAP Established Connections: This search query, when applied to the system logs collected from the OpenLDAP Server, displays OpenLDAP log messages for established connections.
