The z/OS Connect EE open beta has been refreshed.

Click to download the latest z/OS Connect EE open beta release now.

The main highlights of this refresh are:

  • API requester.
z/OS applications can now call Swagger (Open API) defined RESTful APIs through z/OS Connect EE using the API requester.
  • Support for >32K data structures with the IMS service provider.
The IMS™ service provider now supports input and output data structures that exceed the maximum size of an IMS message segment (32,767 bytes).

API requester

z/OS applications running on CICS®, IMS™ or z/OS batch programs can call Swagger (Open API) defined RESTful APIs using the new API requester feature within z/OS Connect EE. The HTTP methods POST, PUT, GET, and DELETE are all supported.

z/OS applications can be written in COBOL or PL/1. Sample COBOL and PL/1 applications are supplied in the hlq.SBAQSAMP PDS library. The Build Toolkit can be used to generate the required artifacts based on the API description file of the RESTful API you plan to call.

Further information on the API requester feature is available in the z/OS Connect EE open beta Knowledge Center.

Support for >32K data structures with the IMS service provider

The IMS™ service provider now supports input and output data structures that exceed the maximum size of an IMS message segment (32,767 bytes).

IMS™ COBOL applications that contain large input and output data structures that exceed the maximum size of an IMS message segment of 32 KB (32,767 bytes), call the supplied utilities BAQGETS and BAQSETS. These utilities, supplied in the hlq.SBAQSAMP PDS library, handle the de-segmentation and segmentation of the large data structure by using a temporary storage to store the large data structure.

For the open beta, large IMS data structure support is automatically enabled when the IMS service provider detects that an IMS service, created by using IMS Explorer for Development, is based on an input or output transaction message that consists of a single segment whose data structure has a maximum length that exceeds 32 KB. A sample IMS COBOL transaction, BAQLDSP, is supplied in the hlq.SBAQSAMP PDS library. This sample uses two JSON documents that can be obtained from the z/OS Connect EE open beta forum.

Further information on this feature is available in the z/OS Connect EE open beta Knowledge Center.

For a full list of changes, see z/OS Connect EE open beta change history in the documentation.

As always, if you have any questions, or comments about these new features, let us know on the z/OS Connect EE open beta forum.

Nice feature… does this work with the CICS embedded zCEE?

    • Hi Steve,
      Thanks for your comment.
I assume you are referring to the API requester feature. Although the testing of this particular feature has been in standalone mode for the open beta, there is no reason why it shouldn’t also work for z/OS Connect EE inside CICS too.
      Kind regards, Alan.

Hello, will there be additional Refreshes in the Open Beta program ? — perhaps built on the 3.0 code base … I’m interested in testing IPIC CICS connectivity as well as the new Service tooling and build toolkit .

    Thanks,, Dave
