IBM Z Common Data Provider version 2.1.0 4Q2019 PTF simplifies and streamlines configuration process

In the IBM Z Common Data Provider Version 2.1.0 4Q2019 PTF, the Configuration Tool is enhanced to simplify and streamline the configuration process from the following aspects:

    • Protocol associated with a subscriber shows up on the canvas

    • User can select all data streams for subscription with one click.

Figure 1 shows the comparison between the subscriber boxes before and after this enhancement is introduced. The protocol information is added to the subscriber box under the subscriber name.

Figure 1: protocol associated with a subscriber

Figure 2 shows the new "select/unselect all" check box that is added to the header line in the "Select streams for subscription" dialog which pops up after you click the “Subscribe” icon of the subscriber box.

Figure 2: the check box added for "select/unselect all"

There might be multiple options for the same data stream with different tags in the list. More tags mean more transforms and filters. The "select/unselect all" check box has the following behaviors:

    • If there are streams in the list already selected, when you click the checkbox, only the options with the most tags among each unselected stream are added to selections.

    • If all streams are already selected, clicking the check box will clear all selections.

    • If none is selected, clicking the check box will behave differently depending on whether there are customer selected options for each stream. If there are customer selected options, those options are selected. Otherwise, the options with the most tags among each stream is selected.
Remark:

    • "Customer selected options" refers to: (1) The subscriptions that customer has added before "Select stream for subscription" dialog opens. (2) The items that customer explicitly selects on "Select stream for subscription" dialog.

    • If there are multiple options for a stream, when one option is selected, others are disabled. Customer can still subscribe more streams by clicking "Subscribe" icon on the Data Stream box or Transform box.

Here is a scenario to demonstrate the enhancements:

Figure 3 shows a sample policy with three data streams added to the canvas. For "z/OS SYSLOG" and "CICS User Messages", there are transform filters added. And there are two existing subscriptions, one is between "z/OS SYSLOG" and the subscriber, the other is between the "z/OS SYSLOG" with regex and time filter and the subscriber.

Figure 4 Shows the "Select stream for subscription" dialog after you click the "Subscribe" icon on the subscriber box. The "z/OS SYSLOG" subscriptions are selected. For "CICS User Messages", all three options are available and unselected. For "WebSphere SYSOUT", there’s only one option and unselected.

Figure 5 shows the result of clicking the "select/unselect all" check box. For "z/OS SYSLOG", the selections remain unchanged. For "CICS User Messages", the item with the most tags is selected, while others are disabled. For "WebSphere SYSOUT", there’s only one option and it is selected.

Figure 5: after click "select all"

At this stage, all available options are selected.

Figure 6 Shows the result of clicking the "unselect all" check box again. All options are unselected.

Figure 6: after click "unselect all"

At this point, if you click the "select all" check box again, all previously selected options are selected, which is the same as the result in Figure 5. For "z/OS SYSLOG", the customer selected options are selected. For "CICS User Messages", there’s no customer selected option, so the option with the most tags is selected. For "WebSphere SYSOUT", there’s only one option and it is selected.
