It is not only about hacking code – Packaging and Deployment in a DevOps Pipeline

Loving digging into new technology is one thing, to deploy it in a company which probably operates world-wide is a different topic. I was very excited, when IBM has released IBM Dependency Based Build – again some new technology to get my hands dirty.

Working on the Mainframe, I meet a lot of open and very intelligent people in IBM and also in client engagements from whom I also learnt a lot – especially, that technology is supporting the modernization, but will not drive it.

Nicolas Dangeville and I worked last year on our second whitepaper. In this second publication, released end of January, we explore the Continuous Delivery part of the software development pipeline: packaging and deployment of traditional mainframe applications - supporting your Enterprise’s DevOps transformation.

Instead of going into the great details of bits and bytes, we outlined different strategies and concepts, giving you background information and raising the questions you need to think about.

It is a great doc for Mainframers wanting to understand more about the CI/CD pipelines, but also for distributed pipeline architects.
