FAQs

Why has IBM decided to sunset the developerWorks brand?
With the sunset of DWAnswers, developerWorks Communities, and now the sunset of Developer Centers, it seems like the whole of developerWorks is disappearing. It isn't! The developerWorks brand is not being sunset; it is being merged with IBM Code, enhanced, and rebranded to “IBM Developer.” The developerWorks name has long been the standard at IBM for developer content. It features many great articles and tutorials to help developers find answers to pressing questions. IBM Developer provides developer advocacy, code patterns in GitHub, tech talks, and other developer community tools, resources, and activities. The integration of developerWorks and IBM Developer will increase focus on IBM development tools, middleware, open source software and community enablement to help developers get their work done every day.

Will all the content currently on Developer Centers be disappearing?
No, the IBM Z team are working on migrating all useful content to the different channels highlighted above. Through analysis of readership, they have been working to understand what content you find valuable so that they can migrate it to the appropriate channel for better navigation. What does that mean? It will mean you will be able to find much more up-to-date and valuable information targeted for you.

How do I navigate IBM Communities to find the content?
Each solution, concept, or topic area has its own group. For example, the IBM Z and LinuxONE community contains topic groups related to software and languages technologies, and solutions, such as DevOps, Cloud, It Operations and others.

Navigating the Community is simple: Choose the community in which you're interested from the Community menu at the top of the page. In each community, choose your group from either the Topic Group menu, or from its group tile in the community page itself. Want to join? Just click one of the many Join buttons on a group tile or the group page to become a member!
Topic Groups are defined by IBM terminology and offerings, and User Groups offer user topic-led forums, blogs, announcements and resources. Use Topic Groups to find content about specific and related offering content that you would be familiar with going onto the Developer Centers, and use User Groups to connect with like-minded individuals to discuss and keep track with user-generated topics.

What's happening with downloads?
Recognize this page? The downloads page has moved to Downloads and can be acccessed directly or through IBM Developer.   With redirects in place soon, it should be a seamless experience.

What happens if I can't find what I'm looking for?
We have a dedicated team who are making sure that doesn't happen, but if you can't find useful a piece of content that used to be available, raise a discussion in our community. It might be that our team are refreshing and republishing the content so that it is up-to-date for you.
