Frequently Asked Questions regarding the future of the Marketplace Provider Program

  • Is the IBM Marketplace going away?
    • No. The IBM Marketplace will continue to grow and improve as a platform. We are pausing our recruiting and growth efforts for Marketplace partner providers to improve and align the tooling across the entire platform.
  • What if I’m in the process of onboarding?
    • For providers who have already signed the Marketplace Business Provider Agreement and are in the process of onboarding, they must have their offerings published before the April 28 cutoff. On that date, the IBM Marketplace team will migrate the published content that is live on the marketplace to the new tooling.
  • Can I still publish integrated offerings?
    • For providers who already have integrated offerings, we will be accepting publish updates until April 28th. No new integrated offerings will be accepted for publish on the Marketplace.
  • How was I notified of the changes to the Marketplace Provider Program?
    • An email was sent to every current provider on the IBM Marketplace on March 13. The text of the email is available here.
  • I am the provider of a non-Bluemix integrated service and have customer subscribers. What actions should I take?
    • First, determine a plan for existing subscriptions (migrate, terminate, other). Next, contact customers as soon as possible, but no later than May 12th to explain if/how to migrate their subscriptions to another platform, or if not possible, informing them that their subscription will end. Finally, manage your service to avoid getting new subscriptions that will result in an abrupt or minimal usage period.
  • What can I do to prevent new subscriptions for my non-Bluemix integrated service?
    • In order to prevent new customer subscriptions consider converting your non-Bluemix integrated service to a referral service. Instructions for how to make the switch are available here.
  • Will the current providers listed in the IBM Marketplace be supported in any way after the migration?
    • All current providers (both integrated and referral) listed in the IBM Marketplace will be converted to referral listings and migrated to the backend system we use for IBM offerings. After that, the support will be self-service.
  • What does integrated commerce mean?
    • Integrated commerce involves IBM managing the provisioning and/or billing for partner providers. If your offering is provisioned or downloaded through the Marketplace, then it is an integrated commerce offering, even if it is a free trial or download.
  • What does referral mean?
    • Referral listings are listings that link out to a provider’s website. Most of our Partner listings are referral listings.
  • How does this impact my listing on Bluemix?
    • Existing Bluemix listings are completely unaffected by this change. Bluemix and the IBM Marketplace are separating their onboarding and business programs. If you have a listing on both Bluemix and Marketplace, you’re Bluemix service will not be affected, and your Marketplace listing will be automatically migrated to our new backend. Please contact mktplace@us.ibm.com for further questions related to Bluemix.
  • Who can I talk to at IBM about this decision?
    • Please completely review these FAQs, and if you have further questions, send them to mktplace@us.ibm.com.
  • How does this effect my overall partner relationship with IBM?
    • This program is independent of your PartnerWorld membership or any other agreements you have with IBM.
