I’ve been keeping you up to date on the progress of Node.js community support for Linux on Power, AIX, and Linux on Z/LinuxOne over the past while and its time for the most recent updates.

I’m happy to be able to let you know that you can now get binaries for Linux on Z/LinuxOne and AIX  from the community download site for both nightly builds and the latest 6.7.0 release. While Linux on PPC has been available for quite a while and nightlies have been available for a few weeks, the 6.7.0 release was the first one to include Linux on Z/LinuxOne and AIX !

Check out the download directories:

Nightlies (as examples, new ones each night):

With the binaries being:
XXX-aix-ppc64.tar.gz (AIX)
XXX-linux-s390x.tar.gz (linuxOne)
XXX-linux-s390x.tar.xz (linuxOne)
XXX-linux-ppc64.tar.gz (PPC BE)
XXX-linux-ppc64.tar.xz (PPC BE)
XXX-linux-ppc64le.tar.gz (PPC LE)
XXX-linux-ppc64le.tar.xz (PPC LE)

in each of the directories where XXX matches the release.

From now on in we hope that the story for Linux on PPC, Linux on Z and AIX will be pretty boring, they’ll just be part of nightlies and releases like the other platforms….  We still have a little work to update links on the main community download pages but until that happens you now know where to get community binaries.

Separately, on the z/OS front we’ve landed the initial changes to support z/OS in libuv (see https://github.com/libuv/libuv/pull/937), one of Node.js’ key components.  Work also continues on Node.js for z/OS in this repo: https://github.com/ibmruntimes/v8z/tree/3.28-zos.

So until next time, if you want to learn about processors, code generation, garbage collection, operating systems, aysnc systems and building high a performance JavaScript platform come join us by joining the Node.js Foundation technical community, or contributing to the V8 ports.
