We are excited to be a platinum sponsor of AltConf 2017 during the week of the Apple World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC). To make the most of having thousands of developers together at WWDC and AltConf, IBM will also be hosting two days of hands-on workshops (June 7-8) at the Hyatt Place hotel. The 45 minute workshops will cover the latest cognitive, IoT, and Server Side Swift capabilities. So take an hour, or two, out of your day to explore advances in these technologies with us. Reserve your spot below for the workshops you want to attend and then let us know you will be there by tweeting about it using #WWDC17 or #AltConf.

Location: Hyatt Place San Jose Downtown, 282 Almaden Blvd, Salon 2 & 3
(Space is limited to 60 developers per lab.)

Pre-requisites:

  • You will need a free IBM Bluemix ID for the labs that you will be doing. You can sign up using this link. Get a Bluemix ID
  • For the Swift workshops, please bring your own MacBook.

  • Featured:

    TJBot
TJBot is an open-source robot for makers, creators, and thinkers to explore AI with Watson. He can be constructed out of cardboard or with a 3D printer, and he is powered by a Raspberry Pi. Come to our workshop to learn how to program TJBot to dance, see, respond to your voice, understand emotion, and even translate languages using an interactive Swift Playground! Raspberry Pi’s and other materials provided.
    Server-side Swift:
The Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) pattern allows iOS developers to become agile, self-contained squads that do both client side and server side development. Featuring Kitura, this hands-on workshop will show you how to rapidly develop a BFF, with an iOS app connecting to the BFF running in a local Docker container. It will also show you how to quickly deploy the BFF to the cloud, with realtime monitoring and clustering functionality included automatically.
    Watson with Swift:
In this hands-on workshop, iOS developers will learn to go beyond artificial intelligence to build smarter, cognitive, apps with IBM Watson and the Watson Swift SDK. You will train Watson to respond intelligently to natural language questions, and then use the Swift SDK to incorporate Cognitive capability into an iOS app.

Not able to register for workshops. Anybody been able to register?

      • rationalnwp May 23, 2017

        Hi Anirban,

What error are you receiving. If it says, you need to register, you should be able to do so and then register. Let me know.

        Thanks,

        Hi Joey.

Sorry to hear we won’t be seeing you next week, but here are a few links to tutorials that highlight the ideas we will be covering in the workshops.

        1. Apply Swift for client-side and server-side applications with this full tutorial, “Apply cognitive to mobile images on the go”
        2. Create a cognitive chatbot tutorial – link
        3. TJBot full tutorial: link

        Take care,
        Neil.

No visible confirmation or email confirmation when I try to register for workshops

    5. Hi! Neil
I just registered a account for booking this workshop.
However even I signed in, the user info at upper right corner in this page always tell me sign in or register but other pages will show the info normally.
I can’t book without sign in either, sending form without any feedback. (I tried in Chrome, Firefox and Safari in OS X)
Therefore, I sent a booking mail to you 🙂
I hopes reporting this issue to you will be helpful.

        Hi Calvin,

I got your registration and approved it. Not sure why you had the issues but it appears your submission went through. See you next week!

        Take care,
        Neil.

Hi, I am not getting the request confirmation for my booking. FYI I have logged in successfully but on send booking I am not getting any response while my colleague did the same and got a booking request message as response.

        Take care,
        Neil.

      • rationalnwp June 04, 2017

        Hi Ben,

You are confirmed for the three workshops. Have a great time.

        Take care,

      Hi,
I register for two sessions but didn’t get any notifications saying it’s reserved. I tried to sign in but this wouldn’t work either. Am I doing something wrong?

Time to build a registration system that actually works. Did anyone test this? I keep getting an error saying that my email already exists. I need to log in and proceed with booking. I’m already logged in.

      • rationalnwp June 07, 2017

        Hi Russ,

Apologies for the errors in the system. Please come to the session onsite and we will register you there.

        Take care,
        Neil.
