Teenager creates Watson-powered chatbot to help students plan for college during COVID-19

When eighth-grader Harita Suresh found herself stuck at home due to the coronavirus, she decided to use her extra time to learn something new. After perusing edX.org, she settled on a course from IBM called AI chatbots without programming, which claimed that she would be able to build a fully functional chatbot with no prior knowledge about AI. Sidra Ahmed and her team developed Tovit by utilizing the latest technologies such as Watson Assistant, Watson Discovery and other open source projects. The solution is being hosted on IBM Virtual Server. The solution includes a dashboard for statistics, contract tracing module, and additional items. Read more.

How project Mi Rio protects communities from disaster flooding

Flooding is one of the most ruinous natural disasters, with the potential to cause devastating property damage and catastrophe. Using data from The Weather Channel, mathematical models and accessible content, a solution created by participants of Call for Code going by “Mi Rio” creates an integrated system of early alarms for flooding. Singapore Answers the Call

Global crises require global actions. When the arrival of COVID-19 left many frozen in its worldwide surge, a group of problem solvers from Singapore stepped up to the plate to fight back. In support of the 2020 Call for Code Global Challenge, the Singapore Civil Defence Force teamed up with IBM Singapore in June to deliver an e-hackathon in an effort to combat two massive global issues that warrant global attention: climate change and COVID-19.Read more.
