Forrester researched, analyzed and scored numerous Functional Testing solutions and identified IBM as a leader, stating that IBM

“outpaces the competition in the number of platforms on which teams can execute test automation.”

The 33-criteria evaluation of functional test automation (FTA) providers in the report is designed to help application development and delivery (AD&D) professionals select the right functional test automation tool for their needs. Functional test automation tools were evaluated on current offerings, strategy and market presence.

The report notes that

“IBM’s leadership position relies on a comprehensive set of features it offers in the UI-based approach and an even stronger one in API testing.”

“Companies are increasingly using APIs to connect new and existing IT services and integrate vast amounts of data as part of their digital transformation strategy and shift to the cloud,” said Marie Wieck, general manager, IBM Hybrid Cloud. “Ensuring these APIs function as required is an essential step in the app development and delivery process.”

In the report Forrester says,

“Functional testing is one of the most crucial, time-consuming, and expensive steps in continuous testing — so it’s necessary to automate this testing, and to automate it at higher levels than most Agile teams achieve today.”

To realize the value of both hybrid cloud and on premises environments, software testing must be automated to reduce the risk of deploying poor quality applications into production.

Automating software testing means an organization can implement different scenarios, test out differentiators such as moving elements of the solution into a cloud, and quickly get feedback on what works or doesn’t work for various business scenarios. Automated software testing means organizations can make decisions knowing that they can respond and react to feedback quickly. Reducing critical quality tests from days to in a matter of minutes in some cases is smart and good for the business. Good software testing includes testing at the API level, the user interface level, and the overall system level. The more tests that are automated, and run early and often, the better.

For IBM, being recognized by Forrester as a leader in Modern Application Functional Test Automation Tools underscores our commitment to offer clients innovative solutions for test authoring and execution across functional testing, API/integration testing, and performance testing.
