R – The Data Science Diaspora
R is a open source statistical programming language embraced as an alternative to proprietary options like Matlab, SPSS, and Strata and it allows researchers to apply traditional software engineering workflows to research methods so their results can be shared and reproduced. Data Scientist Augustina Ragwitz details how by using R, the data science community is emphasizing the science in this area of experimentation.

Create and deploy Java microservices
using MicroProfile and Kubernetes
Learn how to deploy a Java-based microservices application (using MicroProfile) to a Kubernetes cluster. The front end is written in Angular and the underlying microservices are written in Java – apps and services run on WebSphere Liberty in Docker containers managed by a Kubernetes cluster. The video is a Tech Talk by Developer Advocates John Zaccone and Tim Robinson and demonstrates how to use IBM Cloud Private to take advantage of a managed Kubernetes private cloud environment.

Create a natural language classifier that identifies spam
Senior Software Engineer Carmine DiMascio shows you how to use Watson Natural Language Classifier on IBM Cloud to create a spam classifier app (by creating a new instance of the classifier), train it to distinguish between spam and acceptable input, and test its accuracy.

Collect, analyze, and report on website visitor data
with clickstream analysis
Clickstream analysis is the process of collecting, analyzing, and reporting about which web pages a user visits and it offers useful information about the usage characteristics of a website. In this code pattern, Rich Hagerty will show you how to use clickstream analysis to demonstrate how to detect real-time trending topics on the Wikipedia web site. To perform this task, Apache Kafka will be used as a message queue and the Apache Spark structured streaming engine will be used to perform the analytics.
Manage your blockchain network with
Hyperledger Composer Playground
In this video, J. Steven Perry introduces you to the Hyperledger Composer Playground UI and shows you how to get it up and running with Docker. In the accompanying tutorials, he explains how to model and test, refine and deploy, and interact and extend your blockchain network using Playground.

Balancing protection and access of data for AI modeling
Val Bercovici, Founder and CEO of PencilDATA, explains that before companies train AI software using the data they’ve collected, they have to be certain that the data is authentic, that it has been cleansed, that the people behind the datapoints have been honest in their answers. Coupled with the challenge of accessing the really interesting data that will add insights to your generically trained data models which is almost always behind firewalls, Val explains that data responsibility is the crucial concept needed to make insightful data available to AI modeling while continuing to provide the maximum protection to that information.
