z13 systems will ship with Rocket Software’s Data Virtualization preloaded, allowing developers and testers to access every piece of mainframe data without having any mainframe domain knowledge.
Bryan Smith introduces Rocket Software as an “enterprise infrastructure software company,” focusing on customers with high-availability and performance needs. He characterizes Rocket Software as “an extension of IBM’s R&D.”
Todd Watson asks Bryan Smith to discuss their recent preload announcement. Bryan notes that z13 systems will ship with Rocket Software’s Data Virtualization solution preloaded. Rocket Data Virtualization is a way for developers and testers to access every piece of mainframe data w/o having any mainframe domain knowledge. He says developers today want to use JSON, SQL, RESTful web services, etc. to build their applications. Rocket Data Virtualization enables them to do that.
Bryan Smiths says in the past what typically happens is that companies will “extract, transform, and load” data off the mainframe systems into some other database so that applications could access the data. But this approach impedes real-time analytics because the applications are not accessing the system of record and is also a security concern. The Rocket Software solution gives developers direct access to the system of record without having to move the data.
