The TestPlant team has created a nice integration between their eggPlant testing tools and IBM UrbanCode Deploy. eggPlant tools run the gamut of platforms from mobile, to distributed to mainframe to embedded. eggPlant uses an image based approach to capturing functional tests, so a single test script can operate against multiple platforms (such as iOS and Android).
The eggPlant team put together a wonderful demo video showing the integration. The show a mult-tier application with a server side component and a mobile component being deployed. Then tests are automatically run against an emulator taking advantage of IBM Mobile Quality Assurance.

These types of integrations that bring together deployment automation and test automation are really critical. When trying to speed time to delivery, testing and remeidating what is found are often the biggest bottleneck. With deployment automation, you ensure that the latest, most relevant code is what is under test, and that no installation errors waste QA’s time. Automated testing takes a large portion of regression testing out of the manual realm and into automation. To achieve the next step in continuous delivery, it’s important to link the build system to the deployment automation to rapidly get new versions out and the deployment system to the testing tools to validate those builds and find regressions immediately.
