UrbanCode Deploy 7.0 introduced a new server-agent communication protocol, which offers many performance improvements and increased scalability. To learn more about these improvements, check out Web Agents Bring Greater Scalability and Stability to UrbanCode Deploy. UrbanCode Deploy 7.0.1 extends this capability by adding agent configuration templates. With these templates, you can define a reusable set of configurations that you can use to easily migrate existing JMS agents to Web agents.
Change can be risky, especially when the changes might impact your ability to deliver software. Have no fear: by using our mass agent migration capabilities, you can migrate as many (or as few) agents as you want, with a few simple clicks!
The new mass agent migration capability makes it easy to pick and choose agents to migrate. Choose the applications to test the new functionality with, and start with an non-production environment. Create a new agent configuration template, and then identify the corresponding agents in the Resource tree that will use this template to migrate to the new Web communication protocol. After you identify the agents, you can click the corresponding icons to start the migration. The process updates the communication protocol, and you’ll be ready to start testing deployments.
Nobody wants to take the “spray and pray” approach (where you update all your agents at once), which can be time consuming and high risk. Saving time and reducing risk are the primary reasons behind developing these new agent configuration templates. Use them to start small, test the new protocol, and see for yourself how well they perform. With the new server-agent communication protocol, UrbanCode customers can scale to over 100K deployment targets! After you test your configuration in non-production environments and have a window of opportunity to upgrade the rest, you can use the same templates to migrate as many agents that you are comfortable with at once. This capability makes it easy to align your work with outage windows and perfect for updating target servers that are positioned to be upgraded.
