Over the past four months teams from IBM Global Business Services (GBS), Watson and Bluemix have been on a mission to activate more client-facing developers and consultants from across IBM to build powerful cognitive applications on Bluemix. A cornerstone of this effort was launched in February when we announced the Watson + GBS Cognitive Challenge. More than 1,800 IBMers from around the world accepted the challenge of building the next great Watson-powered cognitive app. For most teams, the ideation process began by interacting with Watson industry leaders to help refine wild ideas into compelling and practical use-cases. In the next phase of competition nearly 600 teams followed IBM Design Thinking principles to create prototype app submissions. By the middle of April an executive panel selected 25 semi-finalists to proceed to the final stage of development. Throughout April and into early May finalists enhanced and tuned their prototypes into complete apps powered by Watson services. On June 8th we announced the five winning teams whose members and apps (or IoT robotic integration in one specific case) are identified below. Best of all, these teams are thrilled to be able to share their work with the dev community. So, in an effort to do this, we’ve invited members of each team to share – within this blog – key insights about their experiences over the course of the next week. Stay tuned for these updates and please feel free to reach out to us in the comments section below.
