Need to look up IMS or IMS Explorer documentation for a task at hand, but don’t have access to the Internet? Have the documentation in PDF format, but can’t really search effectively across all PDF files?
A Knowledge Center Installer is now available for installing the documentation for tools that are on the IBM Explorer for z/OS Aqua platform (or simply, Aqua). With IMS Explorer joining the Aqua platform (see “IMS Explorer for Development is now installed through Aqua“), IMS Explorer V3.3 documentation can be installed in a local instance of IBM Knowledge Center. Along with IMS Explorer documentation, to facilitate app development and database definition tasks, documentation for IMS 14 and IMS 13 is also included.
The installation is done through IBM Installation Manager with a hosted repository. When you specify to install from this designated repository, select both IBM Explorer for z/OS Documentation (a prerequisite) and IBM IMS Enterprise Suite for Distributed Systems Documentation (IMS Explorer is a component in IMS Enterprise Suite).
After following the instructions on the screens to specify the installation location, you get to choose the features in each package to install. Here, you can choose to also install IMS 14 and IMS 13 documentation.
After the documentation and the Knowledge Center is installed, start the locally installed IBM Knowledge Center and enjoy easy access to IMS documentation!
