About the conference

The Build Smart on Kubernetes India conference is a series of hands-on workshops that empower developers to innovate more and ship faster with one of the leading hybrid cloud, enterprise container platforms.

These 3-part workshops will jump-start your understanding and experience of application development on Kubernetes featuring Red Hat OpenShift. Starting with an exploration of containers, you’ll rapidly move into a series of hands-on experiences which demonstrate why OpenShift is a rich, enterprise Kubernetes platform for development of cloud-native applications.

Focus areas

Day 1: Learn the basics: Getting up and running

Learn the core concepts of Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud, and how OpenShift developers can have a fast and secure way to containerize and deploy enterprise workloads in Kubernetes clusters.

Building cloud native or containerizing legacy/traditional applications? Wondering where should you begin? Get a glimpse on hosted development environments that is build for those day-1 operations with a focus on security, observability across environments, and more.

Day 2: Explore applications: Operating our clusters

Learn how highly available OpenShift clusters are built on Kubernetes container orchestration that offers consistency and flexibility in operations.

Going from a solution to a service is easier than you think. Get an introduction to Operators on Red Hat OpenShift—then build, enable, and deploy your application with security and self-management in mind.

Day 3: Go deeper with OpenShift: Extending our cluster's capabilities

Get started with the OpenShift community. Learn the tools of the trade to run your CI/CD pipelines in a Kubernetes-native approach.

This conference will give developers an insights into key technologies required to rapidly build secure applications that can be managed and optimized across multiple cloud providers.

Day 1: November 10, 2021

  • Welcome to Build Smart on Kubernetes - India

    Priya Mallya

Must be logged in and registered to unlock sessions.

  • JJ walks you through deploying a simple python application to Kubernetes/OpenShift. We'll start from the ground up, then get a complete automated build. The goal is to enable developers to focus on code, not the infrastructure! It's a chance to see the power of OpenShift and understand why taking the time to learn cloud-native development can get you the velocity you need.

    JJ Ashgar

Must be logged in and registered to unlock sessions.

  • Learn how Red Hat OpenShift helps businesses achieve greater value by delivering modern and traditional applications with shorter development cycles and lower operating costs. Get up to speed with the key features that OpenShift provides.

    Divya Lakshmi

Must be logged in and registered to unlock sessions.

  • In this lab, you will learn how to deploy an application on OpenShift, use the OpenShift commmand line interface, read and interpret logs and events that are generated, use the metrics and dashboards that are available, and scale an application

    Debjani ChatterjeeIshani Panday

Must be logged in and registered to unlock sessions.

Day 2: November 11, 2021

  • Application modernisation is an important part of any Enterprise IT strategy and is driven by business needs more than ever. The approach to modernise applications includes architecture decisions, technology proof points, and a delivery mechanism that brings the best results to the customer. Join this session and listen to our subject matter expert (SME) speak on modernisation experience in the real world and watch a demo of a modernised business journey using Red Hat OpenShift.

    Subramaniam Meenakshisundaram

Must be logged in and registered to unlock sessions.

  • Being one of the largest and most widely known open-source project in recent times, Kubernetes also has extensive documentation and tutorials catering to all levels of experience. As the co-chair for SIG Docs, Divya will walk through the underlying mechanics of Kubernetes documentation while also explaining avenues for getting involved from a documentation standpoint.

    Divya Mohan

Must be logged in and registered to unlock sessions.

  • In this lab, you will learn to deploy the IBM Cloud Operator from the OperatorHub into your cluster, configure the Operator to work with your IBM Cloud account, create a Cloudant service in your IBM Cloud account from a Custom Resource Definition (CRD), deploy the back-end service for the Patient Health App, configure the Health App front-end to use the new back-end service, and examine the Cloudant database via the IBM Cloud portal.

    Debjani ChatterjeeIshani Panday

Must be logged in and registered to unlock sessions.

Day 3: November 12, 2021

  • Understand the challenges of community building in today’s expansive open source ecosystem. Diane Mueller reveals how the OpenShift Commons team takes a scientific approach by using network analysis to develop and grow engaged and connected communities.

    Diane Mueller

Must be logged in and registered to unlock sessions.

  • As the scaling needs grow, you have to deploy your application to more than one Kubernetes cluster. How about deploying multiple applications across multiple clusters? This talk covers Argo CD + ApplicationSets that allow you to manage deployments of a large number of applications, repositories, or clusters, all from a single Kubernetes resource.

    Dewan Ahmed

Must be logged in and registered to unlock sessions.

  • This lab walks you through pipeline concepts and how to create and run a simple pipeline for building and deploying a containerized app on OpenShift.

    Deepak Shetty

Must be logged in and registered to unlock sessions.
