This tutorial provides instructions for registering your Red Hat OpenShift cluster on IBM Cloud with the Red Hat OpenShift Cluster Manager. Upon registration with your Red Hat account, you will have access to insights and recommendations for managing your clusters. You can seamlessly work with all OpenShift Container Platform and OpenShift cloud services clusters from a unified dashboard.

Currently, only OpenShift on IBM Cloud 4.14 clusters created after February 28th, 2024 can be registered with the Cluster Manager.

Red Hat OpenShift Cluster Manager

The Red Hat OpenShift Cluster Manager allows you to manage all your OpenShift Container Platform and OpenShift cloud services clusters, including hybrid clusters and clusters from other cloud providers, through a single dashboard. This facilitates quick status checks of your clusters, identification of available updates, and comprehensive cluster management.

Additional information about a cluster can be accessed through the Cluster's dashboard page. This dashboard allows you to see and manage performance metrics, monitoring details, user access control, and cluster history information.

OpenShift on IBM Cloud cluster version 4.14 created after February 28, 2024.

Registering your OpenShift cluster with Red Hat

To register your Red Hat OpenShift cluster on IBM Cloud with the Red Hat OpenShift Cluster Manager, add the cloud.openshift.com authorization policy to your cluster's openshift-config pull-secret. This allows anonymized aggregated monitoring data to be sent to Red Hat for remote health monitoring. Monitoring data will commence transmission after the new authorization policy is added and worker nodes are replaced or reloaded.

Steps

Log in to the Red Hat OpenShift Console.
Navigate to the Downloads menu option.
Under the Tokens section, click Download for the Pull secret.
From the command line, configure the cluster with admin privileges:

 ibmcloud oc cluster config -c CLUSTER-ID --admin
```

Backup your existing pull secret for future reference.

 oc get secrets pull-secret -n openshift-config -o template='{{index .data ".dockerconfigjson"}}' | base64 -d > pull-secret-original.json

Update the secret on your cluster with the pull secret downloaded from the Red Hat OpenShift Console.

 oc set data secret/pull-secret -n openshift-config --from-file=.dockerconfigjson=./pull-secret.json

Reload or replace all your worker nodes:
- Reload all worker nodes in your cluster (Classic Infrastructure)
- Replace all worker nodes in your cluster (Classic or Virtual Private Cloud Infrastructure)
Your cluster should now be visible in the Red Hat OpenShift Cluster Manager.
